To The Ones who Married Young.

On the 23rd of December  (One week from today) Leon and I will be married for two years!

We had no money, Leon barely had a job and a wedding that was put together by Church family and myself with a guest list of fifty people.

The only thing our marriage was founded on was Faith and faith alone... Much like my pregnancy three months later!!

We really didn't see what was coming. We had no idea what to expect. We didn't know how we'd survive but we just knew the time was right! We loved each other and  somehow God would provide all of our needs and Leon and I just knew The Lord approved of this.

We've had opinions thrown at us by people we barely knew.

We've had some gossip about us being sure I was having a hidden pregnancy.

And must I even mention the one's who threw a tantrum because they weren't in or invited to the wedding? Even the one's I haven't heard from in years.

Many were positive Leon and I wouldn't make it.. We didn't start out with money, a good job or a nice house. We started off renting  a place with His mama, a slow non steady income and our feet planted on The solid rock.

And here we are two years later still saving as much as we can, Leon now has a steady income with a career, a beautiful  baby girl to add to the family and we'll be getting our own place next year! And our feet is still planted on the Solid Rock.. God has literally provided for all of mine and Leon's needs.

Leon and I. We are ones who Married young. These days it's not something the world recommends. In fact  they make it very clear that they don't approve.

And of course where we were and our circumstance made that thought even worse. Heck if I was my friend I would even tell myself it wasn't a great idea (does that even make sense?) Anyways.

Our wedding wasn't a huge wedding. It wasn't the one  I imagined it would be when I was a little girl with 500 guests and a million dollar photographer.

There was so much drama it wasn't even funny.

And there were many times when Leon and I have honestly felt like eloping but man I'm so glad we didn't!

Minus the craziness thanks to the women of the church, my spiritual sister and everyone who helped out and provided things for us we had a very nice wedding! And the Man I said "I do" to is much more handsome than I had ever imagined.. Just everything about him is better.

  1. A beautiful wedding for the start of a beautiful family! Forget the people who said you wouldn't make it! Or better yet, continue to prove them wrong. You go girl!

I, too, married young (I was 20) and we also started with NOTHING but faith. I can tell you that 10.5 years later, we still have faith, and so much more! Keep your eyes on Him & stay blessed! Congrats on your anniversary!

  6. Early happy anniversary! My husband and I got married at 19, and we really had no support. I also dealt with pregnancy rumors as well, even from my own friends. It really is unheard of to get married young now, but it is even more unheard of to stay together. Keep fighting the odds, God has a plan!

  7. I also married young, I was 19 when we got married and 7 years later we are still going strong with a beautiful 4yr old daughter.
I don't know why but I always feel I have to justify and explain 'why' we got married?! How about, it's the same reason as everyone else, we love each other and don't want to be with anyone else.
I'm also here from the 2014 challenge, it's great to find blogs like yours that I doubt I would have found otherwise.

  8. What a refreshing post to read. My husband and I married young. Suuuuper young! I never really tell people that because I already know they'll judge us. But we've been together for 14yrs and not a lot of people can say that. We are still very much in love and we have two girls. I wouldn't change a thing. One of my friends said to me, "Yes, it's crazy how young you guys were, but you guys are a success story!" I hope that encourages you as much as it did me :)
I just came across your blog...and glad I did :) I just started a new blog, check it out if you'd like! :) www.laneandalley.blogspot.com

  9. Thank you so much for sharing this <3 Similar situation with my boyfriend and I. We are both Christians and God has been our foundation throughout. We've been together 5 years (He's 20, I'm turning 20 in July) and we are planning to get married next year. I'm now going into my sophomore year. He had a job but he had to take time off because of some health issues and now since that has been seen about he is now looking for a job. We really do love each other. He is my best friend and I know the time is right... we both know.

It is true that the world we live in today delays marriage. Even churches delay marriages, which to me is not biblical. It's like they tell you finish college, get a job, get your house, car and land and then you will be "ready" for marriage. My lecturers at my university told us now is not the time to get married because we have to focus on school. There are a good bit of married women in my class and they are doing just fine. I'm ready for those days where I can come home to my husband and tell him all about my day and just snuggle in his arms, do homework with him and take care of him and my home. He already helps me excel in my school work by helping me revise and study and praying with my me. Everybody is different. God created each one of us differently and so we desire different things. I want to grow up with my husband.

To me preparation in marriage is more about preparing spiritually. Of course you should physically have things in place but that's not the end all. So much people delay marriage when God already gave the okay and they know in their hearts are ready.

I want a small wedding, very intimate, simple yet elegant. I want it to be a day I remember but I don't want it to be the day I used all my money that I could have used for my marriage. I want it to be a day we show the world that young marriage is okay. I always remember this verse, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." `1 Tim 4:12

I know it will be challenging at times but I'm looking forward to it!I know God will keep us and provide for us! I am thankful for my parents support and some of my friends! Hopefully I would be engaged this year :)

I'm inspired by your post! :)Thank you! God bless you!
